FLORIDA KEYS BEST LODGING

There are several remarkable destination vacation spots in the Keys which cater to families and provide children's programs. Resorts with Children's Programs will provide information about Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key which from time to time makes available lodging to discounters. Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada also has a Children's program, but not as extensive as Hawks Cay.
Casa Marina Hilton in Key West - A few children’s activities such as shell painting and a Dive-in movie, but Casa Marina no longer offers a children's program or “day care” facility on premises.
Sheraton Key West - Sheraton no longer offers the Coral Reef Kids Club.

Because of the proximity to the Gulf Stream kids can enjoy frolicking in winter ocean water averaging 76 degrees at a number of beach locations in the Florida Keys.

For the visiting family biking is a great escape and good way to see the wonders of the Keys close up. DOLPHIN INTERACTION FOR CHILDREN
The Florida Keys offers kids and families an opportunity not found many other places in the United States or for the world for that matter with its Dolphin Interaction Programs. We list the places to go to if you plan to provide your children with an opportunity to interact with dolphins.
The Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key provides a half day educational non-swim program called Dolphin Insight that includes contact and training at the dock. It has walking tours and a half-day program called Dolphin Encounter which allows for structured swim providing contact with the resident dolphins.
In Islamorada, Theater of the Sea offers a Trainer of the Day program and a Swim program.
Dolphins Plus in Key Largo offers environmental programs several times each day at their marine mammal facility as well as Swim and interaction programs
A facility on Duck Key offers several programs. At Hawk's Cay the Dolphin Connection Discovery program includes personalized contact but no swimming with the dolphins. Under the supervision of a highly skilled guide or trainer you'll be able to pet, touch, and possibly feed the dolphins. In its Dolphins Dockside program, The resort's Dolphin Detective program offers young children and opportunity for hands-on participation in the trainer's world including training games, preparation of dolphin fish food and supervised training of the dolphins.
KIDS AND KAYAKS
Children and kayaks go together, and kayaking and Florida Keys will provide you and your youngster with the right mix of adventure, scenery, wildlife, nature and relaxation. Today's kayaks are stable, comfortable and safe for beginners and kids. They are harder to overturn, and easier to maneuver, and depending on the age of your children you can choose from single and double kayaks for your family excursion. We list kayak providers and kayak tours in the upper middle and lower Florida Keys.SNORKELING TOURS FOR KIDS
Viewing the reef is one of the main reasons visitors come to the Florida Keys, and organized and professional snorkeling tours are the safest way for kids to view this underwater paradise. If you children love the water and are comfortable in it they should be able to snorkel with a little basic instruction. We list several of the larger tour operators with large roomy boats and some which offer unique features which may suit you family snorkeling needs. You will learn about the snorkel concession at John Pennycamp in Key Largo, or can choose a sail and snorkel trip, or a vendor that combines snorkeling with several other activities such as glass bottom catamaran tour of the back country, keys' history, a nature tour plus a cook out. Or you can snorkel from a kayak to get a close up view of an array of sea creatures and marine life such as tropical fish, spiny lobster, sea turtles, nurse sharks, eagle rays, crabs, conch, and soft and hard coral formations.
MUSEUMS AND NATURE WALKS
Families have a number of nature museums and nature walks available to explore in the Florida Keys. There are also several nature walks to tour close by when visiting the beaches of the region. The family will want to go looking for the little Key deer in Big Pine and see the resident alligator at Blue Hole. At the Children's Museum in Marathon there are things to touch and see from days gone by when the Florida Keys was home to Indians, pirates, wreckers, and railroaders. Available are a marine life touch tank, fish feeding, and a kid's interactive pirate ship , "Los Ninos de Los Cayos" . Plenty of fish and animals for kids to see at the children's museum. Tools, shells, and dioramas of pre-Columbian Indians of the Keys, Spanish and British explorers, simulated underwater cave viewing tropical fish, sharks, lobster and marine life can be seen at the Museum of Natural History which is part of the Marathon museum complex.
