FOOD - CHILD FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS

These restaurants offer more relaxed surroundings or some feature which may appeal to kids. They offer something for the adults as well. Putting kids in a non-kids environment such as a fancy restaurant can kill the fun of a vacation.

The Island Tiki Bar and Restaurant - MM 54 - Bayside Marathon

Comfortable outdoors with fast service and setting the kids and family can relax in. Adults needn't worry about noise. Water views and some watersport activity 305-743-4191

The Cantina Lounge - Hawk's Cay MM 61 - Duck Key

Live Caribbean music on pool deck, food served outside or in at the Cantina Lounge, children's menu plus dolphin program . 305-743-7000

Morada Bay Cafe - MM 81.6 - Islamorada, Bayside

White sandy beach and dining overlooking Florida Bay and mangrove islands. Bring a pail and shovel plus other sand toys and have a relaxing outdoor dinner. Short walk to Wide World Sports if the kids get restless. ( see A - Aquarium - Wide World Sportsman ) Sport fish in a small aquarium to see and Hemingway's boat to explore. 305-664-0604

Islamorada Fish Company - MM 81.6 - Islamorada, Bayside

Outdoor relaxed and quick waterside dining, and fishfood. Also near Morada Bay Cafe and Wide World Sportsman complex if the kids get restless. 664-9271

KEY WEST EATERIES

Key West primarily services adults as you can tell by the many bars, but with planning you can add to young children's experience when visiting Key West. Key West is popular with students on Spring Break, March and April , and the Duval Street scene can get a little out of hand.

Jimmy Buffett's, Margaritaville, is safe. It's located on Duval Street, Key West and offers up good food, music, a cheeseburger in paradise, and a great Jimmy Buffett souvenir store next door. Like a field trip it wouldn't hurt to provide a little history and music ahead of time to make it more fun. 305-292-1435

Harpoon Harry's at Caroline Street Key West for its ambiance. 305-294-8744. Hanging from the ceiling the kids will find everything. Bring paper and pencil to see who can make the longest list. Tiffany lighting fixtures, old roller skates, sleds, carousel horses, old advertisements and movie star posters. A collection of Mickey Mouse glasses is in a case. 305-294-8744

Latitudes Beach Cafe in Key West is a quiet and serene restaurant on Sunset Key off of Key W est. It's good for lunch for kids if they aren't antsy. Recommend it because the kids get a short boat ride to its island destination. You must make reservations ahead of time at the Hilton Resort reception desk. 305-289-4313

Sloppy Joes on Duval Street in Key west - The place is wide open so you can check it out to see if its appropriate before committing. A touristy bar and restaurant with simple food. Has live song entertainment and a glanging bell every time someone buys a bartender a drink. It might fit the bill if you want to provide a Keysy and unusual experience. Plenty of noise so you don't have to worry about the kid's behavior.
