Florida hotels and motels - Key West and the Florida Keys  

KEY WEST - Below is a overview of their general locations for most hotels and motels in Key West. The imagebelow shows Downtown and Old town Key West on the left. The locations of North Roosevelt Blvd., the Key West Airport and South Roosevelt Blvd. are also shown.To the right of North Roosevelt Blvd. is Stock Island and on the far right can be seen the landing strips of Boca Chica Naval Air Station.

Most hotels offer shuttle buses which will take you to the heart of the city, Downtown Duval. Choose accommodations that are convenient to your needs and your means of transportation. Generally, places of accommodation in downtown Duval Street or close by will cost more than a place of lodging further away.

We list major brand motels and hotels which travelers are familiar with and which offer a range of prices. Generally the larger and more recently built accommodations provide more amenities or a nearby beach making them more suitable for an active family or couple. The Pier House and Spa, Ocean Key Resort, and Hilton Casa Marina though less well known all have excellent locations and offer superior amenities and/or views.

You'll see familiar hotel names such as Hyatt, Best Western, Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Marriott, and Sheraton to choose from together with independently owned hotels and bed and breakfast guesthouses.

 

The map below provides numbers to help you find the general location of hotels, motels, inns and resorts.

Hotels along South Roosevelt are closer to the ocean beaches.

Two places of accommodation near the airport and South Roosevelt Blvd. are the Sheraton Suites Key West - Map Area 10 - 2001 South Roosevelt Blvd, and the Best Western Key Ambassador Resort Inn - Map Area 9 - 3755 South Roosevelt Boulevard.

In downtown Duval near Map Area 13 are the Ocean Key Resort at Zero Duval Street and the Pier House Resort & Caribbean Spa at One Duval St. Nearby is the Hyatt Key West - Map Area 12 - 601 Front Street. Also nearby is the Weston Resort and a quick boatride will take you the Sunset Cottages on Sunset Island.

Near Map Area 1 are the Hyatt Beach House Resort - 5051 Overseas Highway and the Holiday Inn Beachside - 3841 N. Roosevelt Blvd.

Area 2 is the general location of the Doubletree Grand resort.

Near Map Area 4 are the Quality Inn Resort - 3850 N Roosevelt Blvd. and the Comfort Inn - 3824 N Roosevelt Boulevard.

North Roosevelt Blvd. hugs the shoreline until it becomes Truman Avenue. Along North Roosevelt Blvd. (Areas 5, 6, and 7) are many hotels which face on shallow bay waters not favorable to swimming.

Area 15 is close to Truman Blvd and many guesthouses.

Map Area 11 is close to South Street and the Southernmost point of Continental United States. To the right of 11 is the general shoreline location of the Casa Marina Resort at 1500 Reynolds Street and the Reach Resort at 1435 Simonton Street. The Casa Marina and Reach Resort no longer provides a Children's Program. The Sheraton no longer provides the Coral Kid's Program.

 

Duval Street runs north and south between Numbers 12 and 11. Simonton Street runs north and south parallel to Duval.

SOUTH ROOSEVELT AREA - Upon leaving Stock Island as you cross a small bridge you come to a traffic light and must turn left or right. Turning left will take you to the beach area and South Roosevelt Avenue. Driving along South Roosevelt you will pass a number of beaches: popular Smathers Beach, and Higgs Rest Beach to name a few. Smathers Beach offers concessions, rest rooms, nice sand and people watching. Further on are a number of private beaches for hotel guests of Casa Marina and the Reach Resort. There is Dog Beach near the restaurant Louie's Backyard for dog lovers. Another more distant beach near the southern most point of Key West is South Beach.

DOWNTOWN, DUVAL, OLD TOWN AND MALLORY DOCK SUNSET AREA - Front Street and lower Duval are close to Mallory Dock where the sunset celebration takes place each evening. Nearby are many attractions and the Conch train station. Hotels and motels in this area are usually more costly than lodging in outlying areas. This is where much of the evening crowd will be found as well as travelers from the cruise ships. In addition to a higher daily room rate, noise levels will be higher because of the crowds of people. Higher addresses on Duval and Simonton take you further south and away from the downtown action. Uptown also has places of historic interest to the traveler and tourist. The Southern Most Point and Southern Most House, the Butterfly Museum, Hemingway's House, and The Lighthouse Museum are some of the places visitors are drawn to. There are shops, art stores, bars and restaurants all along Duval Street. On the side streets of the old historic district can be found a number of small inns and guests cottages for rent: Island City House, Duval House, Westwinds Inn, etc. Sunset Key Guest Cottages, A Westin Resort is located on nearby Sunset Island. Boat transportation is provided by Westin.

TRUMAN AVENUE - Continuing along North Roosevelt you will leave the New Town area behind. North Roosevelt (US 1) becomes Truman Avenue as you enter old town Key West. The road use to be called Division Street but was renamed Truman Avenue because of President Truman's love for Key West. A number of quaint guest houses can be found along Truman Avenue.
